Champagne & Brie Region While Brie, France is located in the north, the city of Champagne, France is located in the east. The two historic regions form northeastern France. The soft white cheese known as the Brie we know today originates from the region itself. In 1795, navigator Louis-Antoine de Bougainville also introduced rose culture to the region of Brie. On the other hand, Champagne was founded in 1065 and is best known from the sparkling white wine that bears its name. The region played an important role in the French economy attracting western societies to participate in the Champagne Fairs. |
